From now on, the Syracuse student section in the Carrier Dome will be called the 'Ozone.'

The student section now formerly known as “Otto’s Army” has a new name, Syracuse Athletics announced on Wednesday.

Through a collaborative effort with Otto’s Army, the university’s residence hall association, Greek Life and Student Association, the decision has been made to refer to the student section at home games as the ‘Ozone.’

In effect, the naming draws a distinction between Otto’s Army, which still exists as a student organization on campus, and the student section as a whole at home games, which includes many students who are not members of Otto’s Army. The release notes that OA will still be involved on game days, too.

“The student fan group that bears the same name will continue to lead the cheers at all Syracuse University athletic events,” the release reads, in part.

Syracuse opens the 2019-20 athletics season in the Carrier Dome on Saturday, when the football team hosts No. 1 Clemson at 7:30 p.m.
